DR. MICHAEL FIPPER

Dr. Michael Fipper, Intelligent Infrastructure Partner

As PhD in electrical engineering, Michael has been working at C-level in the energy industry for 25 years. His focus subjects are the distribution network (network planning, asset management, operations and processes, regulation), metering (measurement technology, meter data management, market communication, balancing power) as well as device-, process- and data-management.

Michael combines his technical expertise with a broad experience of management tools: benchmarking, strategy development, corporate planning and controlling, company valuation/due diligence, major project management, innovation management, management of digitization and transformation projects, employee and organizational coaching as well as the exercise of management and supervisory board mandates.

Michael brings the expertise of working for many well-known companies: After completing his PhD at Aachen University of Technology, he was with McKinsey before joining E.ON and supporting the group on various international management positions for over 15 years: at the group headquarters, at a regional supplier, in Slovakia gas industry, at Nafta a.s. and in innovation management.

At E.ON innovation management, Michael explored the fields of digitization, IoT, Smart City and metrology. He moved forward to ista Germany as division manager and member of the extended management board, where he was responsible for the roll-out of radio-based heat meters and the development of the underlying processes and data models. As Lackmann-COO he was responsible for the delivery of every third German electricity meter and the introduction of smart metering products in Germany.

Michael is Managing Director of E:E Consulting in the fields of intelligent infrastructure, smart city and heat transition. He has a special interest in the startup scene. He is financially involved in several startups and partly also operationally acitve.

Michael lives with his family in a wonderful old building in the small town of Lüdinghausen. Lüdinghausen is located south of Münster in the wider Ruhr area. The family house was built in 1907 on the banks of the Stever river – at a time when electricity supply was not yet established in Lüdinghausen.

Michael is a doer, visionary and explainer: He is familiar with all facets of the energy industry – especially with decentralized energy supply, e-mobility and metering/control technology. As an entrepreneur, he develops IoT systems for residential buildings, he operates an intelligent solar system in the garden that also charges his electric car in front of the house, and regularly he despairs of repairing the lighting on his four daughters’ bicycles. He is happy to share the positive and negative experiences from his projects with interested customers.

Michael loves to harvest fruits that he has grown himself in his garden. But even more he is pleased to see others starting to grow their own fruits, too.
